Here’s a film made with the photographs I took in Ukraine. The real movie is about to see the end of its preproduction ordeal !!! This project called “Cinderella’s dream” is both a film and photographs that I first took in Ukraine in 2010. It’s about the search for new faces, new models, by a parisian “scout”, a models hunter. The point of view of the film is dual, one is from the scout himself, his search, and what’s beyond it, and the other is from the eyes of a Russian 16 years old girl who is brought to Paris.
CINDERELLA’S DREAM, UKRAINE. A journey through the eyes of Frederic Leonard, a head hunter for “new faces”, who « scouts » fresh young Eastern girls who are to become models. Four times a years, he makes a journey in Russia or Ukraine, with the help of a former military who lives in Moscow who also is his ex father in law, Alexander Kuletskiy, to fetch for futur models for French models agency Mademoiselle. The girls are from 12 to 16 max, and must be of at least 1,74 m height. Local agencies and “managers” help the selection easier on the spot. Documentary realized from the 4th to the 8th of May 2010 in Ukraine, cities visited where Kiev, Simferopol, Feodosia, and Yalta.

I’m so glad to announce that I’ve just finished a movie as cinematographer with our number one actor Gérard Depardieu !!!
It’s called “Grenouille d’hiver” and was directed by Slony Sow and produced by Jean-Maurice Bellayche/Nompareille production. It was shot with a 2 perf. 35 mm Aaton Penelope camera.
The movie will be shown this sunday the 15th at 9:30 in Cannes during the film festival.

Like I wrote earlier, I’m making a new movie based on my photographic series, Cinderella’s Dream
.
Actually I’ve finished the shots on the 6th of august, with the departure of my “Cinderella” back to Ukraine. The shots were DSLR and AATON 16 mm. Hopefully, the final film will be 52 mn.
I’m editing the shots now, which is a very long process, and, I’m still looking for a title ! For Nastassja is a project name for now. 3 producers are already interested in this project, which is great !

SAUDADE is more a feeling than a word, and therefore impossible to translate, but if I dared I’d say that it’s something you feel deep inside you, a strange atmosphere in your inner self mixing nostalgia, loss of past moments, memories, homesickness, love stories, or loss of fare away countries or people you’ll never or barely see again, songs that you love…
Strangely enough SAUDADE is felt not talked.
But when you use it, everyone knows what you feel deep inside.

There is a community seen by all but which remains akwardly unknown by the masses, that is the one of female fashion models.
Drawn by an attractive desire of seduction that appears on the dawn of teenagehood, quite soon more often, a lot of young girls and even males would do almost anything to be part of the dazzling world of professional fashion models such as Gisele Bundchen or before her Cindy Crawford.
This world of illusion based only on external looks represents for these young people what they think to be an easy way of evasion and easy money, glory and fast social uprising.
Some people make a lot of money out of there naïve dreams, such as bookers and scouts. In this series, Vitor and Ming seek futur models in all the planet, especially very poor neighbourhoods, in order to “represent” them and have them work for them in Paris or New York on magazines or catwalk.
Strangely enough they are both attracted by men only…
My first step in this long project was in Sao Paulo, Brasil.
This first chapter describes a worls of pretences, desires and disappointments, beauty and uglyness.
This story is the one of unmature little girls following there childhood dreams, their Cinderella’s dream.
