I’ve just learned the death of George from Shakespeare & Co tonight. Long ago, when Facebook was not even a concept, I used to buy all my literature there, and only there. In an era that makes me feel like born in another century, when people would read and talk to each other, love and enjoy life, and not only stay home or publish pictures representing themselves all lit up on Facebook, I met with George. He knew every single book he had and he had them all, from Whitman to Auster, from Bronte to Roth and Hammett, Anderson, Wilde… O captain my captain, I’m sad that you’re gone. Have a good trip George. Shakespeare and co forever.
